Greater Shepparton City Council, situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, is the fifth largest provincial centre in Victoria and has a well-developed economy due to its strong agricultural and irrigation base, with major industries related to food processing, manufacturing, transport and health care. Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Grader Operator to join our Civil Construction and Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled plant operator who takes pride in delivering high quality work and contributing to the maintenance of our extensive road network.

As a key member of the team, the Grader Operator is responsible for leading a small team, undertaking grading and maintenance of unsealed roads, supporting road construction projects, and ensuring Council’s road assets are maintained to a high standard. This role plays a vital part in providing safe and reliable road access for our community.

Applicants must hold:

  • Current Grader Competency.
  • Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence.
  • Current Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).

This position may work with, or around, Crystalline Silica. It is a requirement of the role to read and understand information relating to Silica:

What is Crystalline Silica?

Crystalline silica is the crystalline form of silicon dioxide, or silica, a naturally occurring mineral that forms a major component of most rocks.

The most common type of crystalline silica is quartz, which is found in sand, stone and granite.

What are the Health Risks?

Respirable crystalline silica can be harmful when it becomes airborne and is inhaled. Exposure to high concentrations over a short period of time, or low to medium concentrations over a long period of time can lead to serious diseases, including:

silicosis

  • lung cancer
  • kidney disease
  • autoimmune disease

To mitigate the risk, GSCC will provide to all employees:

  • Health monitoring to be conducted on entry and exit of employment
  • Correct PPE supplied to all employees
  • Training, Education and Information
