The Opportunity
The Sydney design studio is looking for a Visual Assessment Specialist - Consultant to join our market leading Visual Assessment team, within the national Design Group. If you are passionate about shaping the visual character and built form of our places and spaces, cities and communities, this is for you.
This role involves delivering high quality objective, technical analysis, built form massing advice, and assessing the effects and impacts of development across our cities, landscapes and unique visual contexts. This role is based in Sydney but involves working across a wide range of National Design, planning, urban design project types and scales. You might be inspecting a solar farm site or determining view impacts for communities neighbouring a proposed HDA proposal.

You Will
As a Visual Assessment consultant will be responsible for fieldwork, project management, graphics, built form visual impact mitigation strategies, assessing visual effects and impacts for a wide range and scale of development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in growing and supporting our national visual assessment offering. We are looking for someone who can combine a design background with planning knowledge and has a keen eye for detail and analysis, but primarily for learning and developing their skills.
In particular you will need to;
- Have an understanding of State and Local Government planning frameworks
- Sound understanding of or experience in Visual Impact Assessment (VIA)
- Sound understanding of or experience in Landscape VIA typical methods and approaches.
- Strong observational and analytical skills and proven ability in technical report writing.
- Interest or awareness Land and Environment Court of NSW planning principles relevant to views, visual amenity, view sharing and visual impacts.
- Be able to juggle deadlines and competing project needs throughout the week.
- Proactively problem solve and fill knowledge gaps (with support) .
About You
3-5 years experience in this or related field and tertiary qualifications in either Town Planning, Landscape Architecture or Urban Design and be able to work efficiently with Adobe Suite programmes.
Its highly desirable if you have;
- An understanding of the process of preparation of accurate visual aids (photomontages) via the use of 3D modelling experience in Studio Max, GIS lite, and 3D software programmes eg Revit/Sketchup
- Be comfortable undertaking fieldwork photography is highly desirable
- You may have an awareness of the Land and Environment Court of NSW photomontage policy requirements.
