Based in the Adelaide CBD, this newly created role offers exposure to large-scale capital projects, operational stakeholders and senior leadership. It is particularly well suited to a first-time mover from a Big 4 or Mid-Tier Chartered firm looking to transition into a commercially focused industry role.
The Capital Projects Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial management, governance and reporting of capital projects across the organisation.
You will partner closely with project managers, engineers, procurement and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insights while ensuring project expenditure is accurately tracked, capitalised and reported.
- Monitor and report project capital expenditure against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Review and assess project costs to ensure appropriate capitalisation treatment.
- Maintain project cost structures, work breakdown schedules and project reporting.
- Prepare monthly journals, accruals, reconciliations and capital accounting reports.
- Manage work-in-progress (WIP) tracking and capital commitments reporting.
- Support fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals and depreciation.
- Prepare project financial reporting, variance analysis and forecasting.
- Assist with budgeting, long-term capital planning and cash flow forecasting.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls and governance requirements.
- Partner with operational stakeholders to provide commercial support and financial guidance.
- Support both internal and external audit requirements relating to capital projects and fixed assets
Profile
- Degree qualified in Accounting, Commerce or Finance.
- CA or CPA qualified, or part-qualified
- Experience gained within Big 4, Mid-Tier or a relevant commercial environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel and analytical capabilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage non-financial stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset and desire to build a long-term career within industry
