Core Purpose

The Application Site Reliability Engineer / Database Administrator will support the continuity, stability and ongoing enhancement of the ATO’s DIIP platforms by ensuring database and application platform services remain reliable, performant, secure and supportable.

The role will contribute to run-and-manage operations, database administration, performance monitoring, operational troubleshooting, automation of administration tasks, issue resolution and continuous improvement across a complex, multi-technology Federal Government ICT environment.

Scope / Responsibilities

The successful Application Site Reliability Engineer may be responsible for:

  • Supporting database and application platform reliability across DIIP services.
  • Using database management system software and tools to investigate operational issues.
  • Collecting and analysing performance statistics.
  • Creating database and platform performance reports.
  • Carrying out routine configuration, installation and reconfiguration of database and related products.
  • Performing agreed database maintenance and administration tasks.
  • Developing and configuring tools to automate database administration activities.
  • Identifying database, application and platform issues.
  • Recommending corrective actions for operational problems.
  • Supporting incident, problem and change management processes.
  • Supporting operational stability and service continuity.
  • Working with application, DevOps, infrastructure, testing, architecture and service delivery teams.
  • Supporting monitoring, backup, recovery and performance management activities where required.
  • Contributing to technical uplift, process improvement and reduction of manual operational effort.
  • Supporting knowledge transfer and APS capability uplift.

Mandatory / Essential Criteria

Candidates should demonstrate experience aligned to Database Administration – DBAD Level 4.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience using database management system software and tools.
  • Knowledge of logical database schemas.
  • Experience investigating database, application or platform problems.
  • Ability to collect agreed performance statistics.
  • Ability to create database and operational performance reports.
  • Experience carrying out routine configuration, installation and reconfiguration of database and related products.
  • Experience performing agreed database maintenance and administration tasks.
  • Experience developing or configuring tools to automate database administration tasks.
  • Ability to identify problems and issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to work within complex ICT environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical delivery and operational teams.
  • Ability to operate in an ITIL-aligned service environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Baseline security clearance.

Desirable Criteria

Highly desirable experience includes:

  • Previous ATO experience.
  • Federal Government ICT operations experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital, integration or platform environments.
  • Experience with DIIP or similar platform environments.
  • Experience as an Application Site Reliability Engineer, Database Administrator or Platform Support Engineer.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring.
  • Experience supporting production applications and critical services.
  • Experience with automation of database or operational support tasks.
  • Experience with incident, problem and change management.
  • Experience with monitoring, backup, recovery and operational reporting.
  • Experience working with DevOps, application development, cloud, infrastructure and service delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting secure, resilient and compliant ICT environments.
  • Experience contributing to technical uplift, service improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Existing Baseline clearance or higher.

Clearance Requirements

Minimum clearance required:

  • Baseline security clearance

Additional requirements:

  • ATO Pre-Engagement Integrity Check must be completed before performing services.
  • PEIC may need to be renewed periodically.
  • Candidates should be able to commence within the required timeframe once cleared.
  • Australian citizenship may be required depending on clearance and role requirements.
