Bechtel is providing a wide variety project and contract management services, crossing all disciplines, to customers in Western Australia to support exciting capital works programmes, including in aviation, defence and energy infrastructure. We are looking for people to join us in a long-term relationship to deliver these services in and around Perth where we are working within integrated teams with our customers and to help build Bechtel’s capabilities for even greater opportunities in the future.

Job Summary

In this role, you will participate in subcontract formation and/or administration. Subcontract formation includes leading preparation and review of bid request packages and developing project contracts operating procedures. Subcontract administration includes continual progress review, forecasting, and communication of difficulties. Your work will ensure subcontract compliance with project requirements.

Major Responsibilities

  • Proactively lead the procurement and post award administration of a main works and/or lead design package.
  • Support the procurement and tendering of the major contract for the assigned program. The role may encompass engagement in the selected procurement process.
  • The Senior Commercial Manager will oversee the implementation of, and monitor adherence to, project specific procedures covering the entire cycle from establishment and throughout construction period (including: change management, payments, close out, warranty and defect periods etc) and rolling out of training as required within the team assigned to the scope/package.
  • Oversee management of project procedures to recognise and identify contract claims as they develop and oversee the timely resolution under the changes provisions wherever possible, obtaining claims and legal expertise as appropriate.
  • As work proceeds, make recommendations to the Project Manager and/or Program Commercial Lead on potential risks and disputes, the mitigation of these risks; closely monitor and help remedial actions and recommend appropriate tradeoffs. Review and monitor potential cost movements through determination of quantum and entitlement to changes / variations and claims in relation to the assigned packages.
  • Effectively monitor project performance against baselines, providing clear and concise updates to relevant internal stakeholders on project status and any issues which may arise.
  • Management of direct reports. Proactively engages with their team’s development through continuous performance management, competency development and feedback.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Requires relevant bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in Commercial Management of projects in excess of $200 million.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Experience and courses in pricing, contract law, contract drafting, administration and negotiation of change orders, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract management for multi-disciplinary firms for major infrastructure projects.
  • Skill in working and communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, with other project functional groups.
  • Knowledge of law, negotiations, or contract management gained through education or experience.
  • Experience and courses in pricing, contract law, contract drafting, administration and negotiation of change orders, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices, and Bechtel policies, procedures and work practices.
  • May manage the work efforts of professionals
  • Makes decisions based on unit objectives, as well as company policies and procedures
  • May be responsible for a functional Program and not have any subordinate employees
  • Assists and may mentor less experienced team members
