About the Role

The Graduate Energy Trader will support the execution of energy trading strategies across multiple Australian energy markets, joining the gas trading team. The role will involve analysing market conditions, supporting the optimisation of client portfolios, and assisting in the development and maintenance of trading and analytical models used by the Energy One trading desk.

The role requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret market data quickly to support informed commercial decision-making.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Tertiary qualification in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Mathematics or a related analytical discipline.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Python, SQL or other analytical tools would be advantageous.
  • Interest in energy markets or commodity trading is desirable, although training will be provided.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support trading and operational activities across multiple energy markets including the STTM, DWGM and GSH.
  • Assist in optimising client portfolios to maximise commercial outcomes while ensuring compliance with market rules.
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing behaviour and operational constraints to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Conduct market analysis and modelling to support trading decisions and strategy development.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving energy trading models and analytical tools.
  • Support trading operations including bidding, dispatch monitoring and market submissions where required.
  • Contribute to market reporting, analysis and performance insights for internal teams and clients.
  • Participate in rostered weekend and public holiday coverage as required to support client operations.
