Reporting into the Finance Manager, the successful Payroll Officer will be responsible for:

  • Processing end-to-end fortnightly and ad hoc payrolls for permanent and casual employees.
  • Maintaining payroll records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Preparing and processing payroll-related reporting, including STP, PAYG, superannuation and payroll tax.
  • Managing payroll reconciliations and maintaining payroll-related general ledger accounts.
  • Processing employee commencements, variations and terminations, including final payments.
  • Responding to payroll enquiries and providing support to employees and external stakeholders.
  • Administering corporate credit cards and employee expense claims.
  • Undertaking account reconciliations and supporting monthly financial reporting requirements.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits and maintaining payroll compliance documentation.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements across payroll and finance functions.
  • Providing backup support for project accounting activities as required.

A successful Payroll Officer should have:

  • Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a professional environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems and relevant legislation in Australia.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills to address employee and stakeholder queries effectively.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and solving payroll-related issues.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector is advantageous but not essential.
