About the opportunity
The Claims and Recovery Support Division (“CaRS”) is focused on supporting the recovery and return to work of injured workers. This is achieved through adopting a contemporary approach to claims management and person centered planning, to support injured workers in maximising their social and economic participation.
The Impairment Benefits Officer is responsible for coordinating the assessment and payment of permanent impairment entitlement to all eligible injured workers within CaRS. This includes making quality eligibility and entitlement decisions, managing stakeholder engagement and communication, and fulfilling administrative requirements.
This is a great opportunity to join a highly collaborative team under a supportive leader and contribute to the division’s compliance requirements under the Scheme Modernisation Act, and the Health and Other Services Act.
Key accountabilities
- Management of impairment benefit (IB) claims for the Claims and Recovery Support Teams in accordance with legislated timeframes.
- Work closely with both the Impairment Benefits and Claims and Recovery Teams to ensure proactive and effective management of impairment benefit claims, identifying and addressing any performance improvement areas.
- Provides specialist support and advice on IB claims resolution of complex issues including matters relating to conciliation, complaints and other disputes.
- Accountable for IB claim audits, reviews and/or health checks.
- Collate and analyse complex IB data, interpreting to understand trends, risks, opportunities and possible solutions and report on findings.

About you
You will have strong technical understanding and current operational claims management experience including knowledge of the Victorian system for managing, compensating work injuries, and using the ACCtion and NOVUS systems.
Additionally you will possess the following skills and experience:
- Good working knowledge of the AMA4 guides and relevant IB legislation in the Accident Compensation Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013
- A high level of communication skills (written and oral), and the ability to give advice and information directly to claims managers, injured workers and their legal representatives.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills and to work to deadlines.
- An ability under direction to effectively translate policy into operational processes, procedures and practices.
