Junior QA Engineer
BLACKROC Recruitment
Build quality software. Learn from experienced engineers. Grow your career.
We're partnering with a SaaS business that's looking for a Junior QA Engineer to join their engineering team.
Whether you've just finished university, or have 1-2 years in a QA role already, this is an opportunity to develop your skills alongside an experienced team of Engineers in a supportive, collaborative environment.
This isn't a role where you'll be left to "click buttons all day." You'll be encouraged to think critically, contribute ideas, and learn modern testing practices, including automation.
What you'll be doing
- Testing new features and product enhancements before they're released.
- Writing and maintaining automated tests using Cypress or Playwright
- Working closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers and Designers to ensure quality is built into every release.
- Logging, investigating and helping reproduce bugs.
- Contributing to improving testing processes and quality standards across the engineering team.
- Continuously learning modern QA practices, automation and software development principles.
We'd love to hear from you if you have
- A Computer Science, Software Engineering or IT degree (or you're about to graduate), or 1-2 years of commercial QA experience.
- A genuine interest in software quality and technology.
- Some exposure to manual testing, automation or programming through university, personal projects or commercial work.
- Curiosity and a desire to understand how software works.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to ask questions and learn.
Bonus points if you've had exposure to
- Cypress or Playwright
- JavaScript or TypeScript
- REST APIs and API testing
- Git
- Agile development environments
Don't worry if you haven't worked with every tool listed above. If you've got the right mindset, the team is happy to teach the technical skills.
What they're looking for
Technical skills can be taught. The qualities they're really looking for are:
- Someone who's curious and enjoys solving problems.
- A team player who communicates well.
- Someone who takes pride in producing high-quality work.
- A willingness to learn from feedback.
- Reliability, accountability and a proactive mindset.
If you're someone who gets excited about improving software and wants to build a long-term career in QA, you'll fit in well here.
Working arrangements
The team believes junior engineers learn best by being around experienced people.
During your first few months, you'll be expected to spend more time in the office so you can pair with the team, ask questions and get up to speed quickly.
Once you're settled into the role, the position moves to a flexible hybrid model of one day per week in the office, with the rest of the week working from home (should you wish).
Why join?
- Work on a modern SaaS platform used by thousands of customers.
- Develop automation skills with Cypress or Playwright.
- Clear opportunities for career progression and mentoring.
- Flexible hybrid working once you're established.
- Supportive engineering culture that values learning and collaboration.
If you're looking for a role where attitude, curiosity and growth matter more than ticking every technical box, we'd love to hear from you.
