Senior Director of Software Engineering

Intrinzic are proud to be partnering with a Sydney-headquartered global technology business whose product sits quietly behind some of the world's most recognisable consumer brands. You've almost certainly used it - most people have - you just didn't know who built it.

Live across multiple international markets and about to be in several more, they're at the sharp end of a genuine scale-up curve, with major new enterprise logos signing and a product roadmap that's expanding well beyond its original category.

The business is deliberately hiring fresh eyes, and the VP you'd report to genuinely wants someone who'll challenge how things are done - not nod along. You'll inherit a function at its scale-up peak, with a mandate to mature it, hire your own leadership layer, and own the engineering strategy for taking a proven platform into every international market with continuous releases. That's a rare problem to get your hands on in Sydney.

The role at a glance

• Senior Director, Engineering & Quality - leading a function of 50+ across Sydney and the US, with offshore squads across Asia and South America
• Three Directors reporting to you across Engineering and QA - including vacancies you'll hire yourself
• Full stack (Node.js) product engineering environment, plus data/analytics and DevOps in remit
• Continuous product releases every few weeks into live client environments - this is genuine end-to-end product delivery, not internal IT
• Own the quality strategy: engineering-led test automation, deployment automation, release discipline

What we need in the right person - and we'll be upfront here:

• A hands-on developer by background who's grown into leading engineering functions - engineering is the main focus here, and any QA leadership exposure alongside it is a real advantage
• To be clear: this isn't a hands-on coding role. Your value is in the detail with your Directors and leads - release quality, engineering maturity, how the function scales - not in the codebase
• Current or recent Head of Engineering / Senior Director leading multiple squads in parallel, building custom client-facing software - ideally SaaS
• Genuine end-to-end ownership: from client requirements through build, testing, deployment into client environments and production support. Owning one slice of one application won't get you there
• Proven experience uplifting engineering maturity - not inheriting a machine that already ran well
• A leader of leaders, with the people leadership to build high-performing teams at this scale whilst staying out of the weeds
• The presence to push back - on senior stakeholders, on enterprise clients challenging your engineering practices.
