Exciting Opportunity: Principal Software Engineer
The client is a pioneering leader in automated manufacturing technology, integrating advanced software solutions with cutting-edge hardware systems to revolutionise Wire Additive Manufacturing processes. They are seeking a talented and experienced Principal Software Engineer to join their innovative team. This full-time position offers a dynamic work environment, based primarily at their facilities with some flexibility for remote work. The contract duration is negotiable, depending on project scope and organisational needs.
As the selected candidate, you will:
- Lead the development of sophisticated software solutions that integrate seamlessly with hardware, supporting the automation of manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including robotics and mechatronics engineers, to optimise system performance and develop innovative tools.
- Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of software using Rust, C++, Rapid Code, and scripting languages.
- Perform code reviews, testing, debugging, and continuous improvement activities to ensure high-quality, reliable software products.
- Support and mentor other team members, facilitating their professional development and the upskilling of the software engineering team.
- Develop reusable libraries and APIs to promote consistency and scalable solutions across projects.
- Define and support best practices in software development, including documentation, automation, and deployment processes.
- Monitor project progress, report on issues, and help deliver products on time within the scope of the project schedule.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies relevant to software engineering, robotics, and mechatronics, and identify opportunities to enhance the organisation’s systems.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience developing software using Rust, C++, and scripting languages, with familiarity in CGAL, 3D, and path planning concepts.
- Strong knowledge of UI frameworks, such as Qt, and experience with source control systems like Git.
- Extensive experience working in Agile environments, with a good understanding of development, testing, and deployment practices.
- Familiarity with Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems, including administrative tasks.
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks, mocking, and unit testing.
- Ability to translate product and business requirements into effective technical solutions quickly.
- Experience working with code repositories (e.g., GitLab), bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira), and collaborative knowledge-sharing platforms (e.g., Confluence).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team while supporting project deadlines.
It is desirable if you have:
- Experience with 3D modelling or path planning software.
- Knowledge of hardware integration, robotics, and mechatronics systems.
- Previous exposure to product delivery in a fast-paced environment with strict scheduling requirements.
