About the Opportunity

Due to their continued growth, a fantastic newly created Senior Buyer position is now available to strengthen their Buying and Planning function. Reporting to the Buying and Planning Manager and based at their Support Office in Hindmarsh Square, you will take ownership of their OTC categories and lead a small buying team, setting the standard for how great buying is done across the group!

This is a role for an experienced buyer who is also a genuine people leader. With your high energy, engaging style, and self-motivated nature, you will coach and develop your team, keep the day-to-day running smoothly, and build the supplier and store relationships that drive real commercial results.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Buyer, you will have a truly great opportunity to work with, and support the Buying & Planning manager, together with:

  • Taking end-to-end ownership of your OTC categories, including sales, gross margins, and profit.
  • Leading, coaching and developing a small buying team, setting clear standards and expectations and getting the best out of every team member.
  • Owning the day-to-day running of the team, keeping priorities on track and outcomes delivered on time.
  • Partnering closely with store teams, conducting regular visits, resolving queries, and building genuine, collaborative relationships – this is key!
  • Building and fostering strong supplier partnerships through range selection and product development.
  • Shaping category direction by identifying growth opportunities and aligning product ranges to customer needs and market trends.
  • Continuing to grow supplier income and commercial value through promotional funding, trading terms and smart negotiation.
  • Planning and sourcing merchandise that delivers on promotional strategy and sales & profit targets.
  • Owning inventory health across your categories, keeping stock, ranges and promotional planning on track.
  • Building category plans and planograms that drive strong performance across the store network.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field would be advantageous, however not mandatory.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a track record of leading and coaching a team.
  • Strong demonstrated buying experience, ideally within retail or pharmacy, across sales, margins, forecasting and budgeting.
  • A proven ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with both internal teams (store level and support office) and external suppliers.
  • Solid category management and merchandising experience, including range reviews and planograms.
  • Previous experience in working with category management and merchandising systems and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
