This opportunity sits within a large Federal Government organisation responsible for delivering critical national outcomes and managing significant public investment programs. Working at the centre of the Commonwealth Budget process, you'll join a high-performing team that partners with senior leaders to support strategic decision-making, financial stewardship and long-term planning.

Your new role

As an APS6 or EL1 Management Accountant, you'll play a key role in supporting budget development, coordination and delivery activities. Working across complex and high-profile priorities, you'll provide strategic financial advice and contribute to decisions with significant organisational impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic budget and financial management advice to senior stakeholders
  • Supporting Commonwealth Budget submissions, implementation and coordination activities
  • Analysing complex financial information and preparing recommendations
  • Developing high-quality briefing materials, reports and budget documentation
  • Engaging with central agencies and internal stakeholders on budget-related matters
  • Monitoring financial performance and contributing to effective resource management
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across budgeting, reporting and financial processes
  • Contributing to policy development, strategic planning and decision-making activities

What you'll need to succeed

Must be an Australian citizen with Baseline/NV1 security clearance

To be successful in this role, you'll demonstrate:

  • Experience in budgeting, financial management, management accounting or financial analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven stakeholder engagement experience and the ability to influence outcomes
  • Experience preparing briefings, reports and advice for senior leaders
  • An understanding of the APS financial management environment and Commonwealth Budget processes will be highly regarded
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
  • Relevant qualifications in accounting, finance, economics, commerce, public policy or a related discipline are desirable
