About The Role

The City of Ballarat is seeking an experienced and visionary Coordinator Sustainable Destination Development to lead the implementation of the Ballarat sustainable destination management plan and support the strategic growth of Tourism Midwest Victoria. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of one of regional Australia's most exciting and evolving visitor destinations.
Reporting to the Executive Manager Visitor Economy, you will lead destination development initiatives that strengthen the visitor economy across Ballarat, Moorabool, Pyrenees, Hepburn and Golden Plains. You will work closely with industry, government, community stakeholders and the Tourism Midwest Victoria partnership to deliver sustainable tourism growth, attract investment and enhance visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Leading the implementation of the Ballarat sustainable destination management plan and relevant Tourism Midwest Victoria strategies.
- Driving tourism industry development, capacity building and business growth opportunities.
- Securing investment through grants, partnerships, business cases and funding submissions.
- Managing visitor servicing operations and destination development programs.
- Building and maintaining influential relationships across government, industry and community sectors.
- Developing and growing Tourism Midwest Victoria membership and corporate partnership programs.
- Overseeing research, data analysis and market intelligence to inform strategic decision making.
- Managing a multidisciplinary team and supporting a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence.
- Identifying and delivering opportunities to grow business events, conferences and visitation throughout the region.

About You
You are a strategic and commercially minded tourism professional who thrives on turning ambitious plans into real-world outcomes. You bring strong leadership skills, a collaborative approach and a deep understanding of the visitor economy sector.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Demonstrate
- Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in tourism management, destination development, business or a related field.
- Proven experience leading tourism, visitor economy or destination development initiatives from strategy through to delivery.
- Strong project management experience, including delivering complex projects within competing priorities and tight timeframes.
- Experience developing business cases, securing funding, managing budgets and identifying investment opportunities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, partnership development, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated success working with government, industry, business and community stakeholders.
- The ability to analyse market trends, visitor data and research to inform strategic direction.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing teams in dynamic environments.
- A passion for sustainable tourism, regional development and creating exceptional visitor experiences.
