Maintenance Fitter

About The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our Austral Masonry facility in Cairns, QLD. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of WHSE are achieved whilst maintaining and improving the reliability of the plant to achieve world class efficiency and first grade product.

Duties include but are not limited to

• Diagnose faults and repair mechanical plant and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Conduct fault-finding, troubleshooting, and breakdown analysis to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
• Fit, assemble, and install mechanical components using a variety of hand and power tools.
• Work closely with supervisors and production teams to resolve equipment issues and support continuous operations.
• Maintain plant and machinery to maximise performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately and ensure work meets company, industry, and legislative standards.
• Follow all WHS policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Success Requirements

• A Mechanical Fitting trade qualification.
• A current Forklift Licence.
• Experience in mechanical fitting, welding, and fabrication within a medium to heavy industrial manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Strong fault-finding, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Machining experience using mills and lathes.
• An Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence and experience working at heights (desirable).
