Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) is the historic home of Australia's Best Race, the Ladbrokes Cox Plate, and for the past 30 years, the best night racing in Australasia. The Club also operates a progressive hospitality portfolio including four multi-purpose entertainment venues and a flagship restaurant, and continues to look for opportunities across premium hospitality, major events, strategic partnerships and immersive entertainment experiences that drive commercial growth beyond race day.
MVRC is currently embarking on a once-in-a-generation $2bn+ transformation project, focused on the development of lifestyle, recreation, and leisure spaces to create an industry-leading connected precinct that will redefine the horse racing industry. Designed to position MVRC as one of Melbourne's most prized sports and events destinations, the project will unlock new business and tourism opportunities while elevating the Club into a new era for generations to come. During the racecourse closure, MVRC continues to conduct race meetings under a transferred model, partnering with other race clubs, with a scheduled return to racing at The Valley's new track in 2027.
About the role
The Event Sales Coordinator is responsible for selling a broad range of events and coordinating event requirements across our hospitality venues and corporate products.
Focused on delivering timely, accurate and high-quality service, this role plays a key part in growing the venues' function and events business. The Event Sales Coordinator will manage the client journey from initial enquiry through to the event handover to venue operations teams, ensuring all event requirements are captured and communicated effectively.
This position is also responsible for securing new business opportunities by building strong relationships with community groups, schools, sporting clubs and local businesses, and corporates, while fostering repeat business through exceptional client account management and customer service.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, proactive, and commercially minded event sales professional with a proven track record of securing new business. They are highly organised, capable of managing administrative responsibilities to a high standard, and excel at delivering a personable experience.
Event Sales
- Recommend suitable venues based on client requirements, including event style, guest numbers, budget and experience expectations and follow up with written quotations
- Build and strengthen relationships with community groups, schools, sporting clubs and local businesses to generate ongoing function and event business.
Event Coordination
- Manage client relationships throughout the planning process, including conducting venue site inspections where required.
- Coordinate all event requirements, including function packages, floor plans, event timings, audiovisual requirements, entertainment and venue deliveries.
Administrative/Other
- Prepare and collate weekly sales reports for each venue.
- Conduct post-event follow-up with clients to obtain feedback and communicate recommendations or improvement opportunities to venue teams.
To effectively perform in the role, the successful candidate must have the following skills, experience, qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role involving the sales and coordination of functions and events.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours when required
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with venue personnel and wider teams to achieve shared goals.
- Strong customer service focus with a commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences.
- Proficiency in venue booking systems, CRM databases and Microsoft Office applications.
