The Position

The Principal Environmental Advisor – Vegetation & Plant Ecology is a full-time hybrid role based in Hobart, TAS, with flexibility for part-time work from home. The role involves leading complex vegetation and plant ecology assessments, including field surveys, data collection, and analysis to inform environmental impact assessments and land management plans. Day-to-day tasks include preparing high-quality technical reports, advising clients on environmental compliance and best-practice vegetation management, and contributing to ecological research and restoration projects. The advisor will mentor junior team members, coordinate project teams, and engage with stakeholders such as government agencies, landholders, and industry representatives. The position also includes contributing to business development through proposal writing, client presentations, and strengthening Enviro-Dynamics’ profile in vegetation and plant ecology.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong foundation in Environmental Science and plant ecology, with experience applying scientific principles to landscape management and vegetation projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment, including survey design, impact evaluation, and mitigation planning for vegetation and habitat values.
  • Experience in Environmental Compliance and Environmental Consulting, providing practical guidance to clients on regulatory requirements and best-practice environmental management.
  • Advanced Report Writing skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and technically robust reports and proposals for diverse audiences.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology, Botany, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.
  • Proficiency in vegetation survey methods, flora identification, and ecological data analysis; experience with GIS and spatial mapping is beneficial.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, regulators, and community groups.
  • Proven experience leading projects or teams, managing timelines and budgets, and delivering outcomes in a consulting or applied environmental setting.
