Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Defence Commercial Officer to support the Electromagnetic Warfare Intelligence Systems (EWIS) Joint & Air SPO (L156).

This role supports the acquisition and through-life sustainment of critical Electronic Warfare capabilities used by the Australian Defence Force. Working within a high-performing project team, you will provide commercial oversight across Defence contracts, procurement activities and contract administration while ensuring compliance with Commonwealth procurement policies and Defence contracting frameworks.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Defence commercial professional looking to work on a complex, high-profile capability program supporting national security outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Defence tender development and evaluation activities using the ASDEFCON contract suite.
  • Assist with procurement planning, documentation and internal approval processes.
  • Provide commercial and contract management support across acquisition activities.
  • Assist with subcontractor engagement, due diligence and ongoing management.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and issues.
  • Support contract administration, financial management and procurement compliance.
  • Prepare commercial reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Work closely with Defence stakeholders and project teams to deliver commercial outcomes.
  • Contribute to project planning and support additional project activities as required.

Essential Experience

  • Strong commercial management and contract administration experience within Defence.
  • Experience supporting Defence acquisition or sustainment programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Commonwealth Procurement Rules and Defence procurement processes.
  • Experience working with ASDEFCON contracts.
  • Strong written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative project team.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable Experience

  • Legal qualifications.
  • Experience with ITAR and export control requirements.
  • Experience in financial planning, pricing, billing and contract administration.
  • Understanding of Electronic Warfare capability.
  • Previous Defence experience as an APS employee, contractor or ADF member.

Security & Eligibility Requirements

  • Hold a minimum NV1 AGSVA Security Clearance.
  • Must be willing to upgrade to NV2 if successful.
  • This role requires access to US Export Controlled (ITAR) material. Applicants will be required to disclose any dual citizenship during the recruitment process, and appointment is subject to approval under US export control requirements.
  • Candidates must not have been employed full-time by Defence as an APS employee or ADF member (SERCAT 6 or 7) within the previous 12 months before commencing in this Above-the-Line contractor position.
