Full Time Contract | $46.70 per hour + Super | Hobart

Osborne Richardson is partnering with a well-established local government organisation based in Hobart to find a Rates officer to join their Rates, Procurement and Risk team on a full-time contract, running ASAP through to 31 July 2027.

About the role

Working within the Rates section, you will undertake a variety of duties supporting the effective administration of council rates, acting as a key point of contact for ratepayers while contributing to a positive and supportive team culture.

Key responsibilities include

  • Undertake general accounting tasks and prepare correspondence and reports relating to rating and valuation matters, including journals, rate calculations, debt recovery and (as required) summons/legal action
  • Act as first point of contact for Council Rates, managing general rating, property, valuation and local government election inquiries
  • Build strong, collaborative working relationships to support effective customer service delivery
  • Negotiate, administer and maintain outstanding rates arrangements using contemporary debt management techniques
  • Conduct property inspections and audits of vacant land within the municipal area
  • Review and process enrolment forms to support production of the Electoral Roll
  • Issue and authorise S132 Rate Certificates and assist with street numbering for new properties
  • Complete building lists for lodgement to the Valuer-General

Key selection criteria

  • Previous experience providing administrative support and customer service within the property sector (e.g. rates, valuations, real estate, property management, or similar)
  • Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to liaise confidently on rating and property matters
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and property/rating system applications
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills, with experience in debt management
