Deputy Director - Strategic Inventory Management

The Role

The Deputy Director Strategic Inventory Management has responsibility for leading the Defence Fuel Supply Chain inventory and supply management of all bulk and packaged fuels and lubricant products to ensure immediate and future supply is maintained, delivered on time and in full and is available to specification in accordance with Capability Manager requirements.

You will oversee the strategic inventory management delivered under the Fuel Network Contract, including coordination of supply and demand forecasting to meet Capability Managers requirements and ensure fulfilment of Commonwealth obligations under the Fuel Supply Contract.

You will be responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of fuel and lubricant inventory management policies, procedures and preparedness activities. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the management of the Defence Fuel Card system, Joint Fuels Inventory Management System and financial oversight of Service budgets for fuel and packaged products.

About our Team

Fuel Capability Branch (FCB) is a critical enabler of Defence capability. FCB ensures the effective, secure, and sustainable provision of fuel and related products across the Defence enterprise. FCB is responsible for the planning, management, and delivery of Defence’s fuel capabilities. FCB is mandated to support Defence’s transition to alternative and strategic energy solutions. FCB consists of six key directorates, each playing a distinct but integrated role.

The Fuel Supply Directorate is part of the Fuel Capability within Joint Logistics Command. The Directorate provides valuable capability support to Defence, by ensuring the ongoing availability of fuels, oils and lubricants to Defence assets both in country and overseas.

The successful applicant should have:

• Relevant experience in Strategic Inventory Management activity, and end-to-end supply chain operations activities.
• A good understanding or ability to gain the understanding of relevant legislative frameworks, Government decision-making and Defence’s policy requirements.
• Experience in managing stock levels of critical inventory, across a national network to meet operational outcomes with a whole of capability outlook.
• A sound working knowledge in the use of ERP (SAP system) or another recognised Supply Chain Procurement System, as well as have proficiencies in MS Office programs. In house training can be provided.
• Excellent communications skills, initiative, strong organisational skills and the ability to respond appropriately to pressures and changing priorities.
