Communications & Fibre Technicians

Stowe Australia, one of Australia’s largest Electrical & Communications Contractors, is currently recruiting experienced Communications & Fibre Technicians to support a project in Adelaide.

This role will be employed from our Melbourne office and employed under a Victorian Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. (EBA)

Immediate starts are available, and applicants who can commence on short notice will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out fibre optic splicing, jointing, termination, testing and fault-finding works.
  • Prepare fibre optic cables for connector termination, including jacket stripping, buffer removal, fibre cleaning and strength-member preparation.
  • Terminate single mode and multimode fibre connectors using epoxy/resin-based hand-polish methods.
  • Complete connector assembly and fibre termination, including polishing and end-face finishing.
  • Pot connector ferrules and prepare fibre terminations for curing, polishing and inspection.
  • Carry out insertion loss testing using optical light source and power meter equipment. Conduct continuity and fault checks using visual fault locators.
  • Perform OTDR testing where required by project specifications.
  • Test, troubleshoot and fault-find fibre optic networks to identify and rectify performance issues.
  • Undertake fibre preparation, cable handling, labelling and dressing to a high workmanship standard.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship, quality control and safety compliance on site.
  • Work effectively across commercial, industrial, infrastructure and remote project environments.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, project teams, contractors and clients. Complete required documentation, test records and project handover information accurately.

Preferred qualifications and skills

Proven capability in:

  • Fibre optic splicing
  • Fibre optic jointing and connector assembly
  • Termination including connector polishing
  • End face finishing
  • Fibre Testing and fault finding
  • Cable Preparation
  • Experience working on construction, communications or infrastructure projects
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality
  • Current White Card / Construction Induction
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • ACMA Open Cabling Registration or relevant telecommunications qualifications will be highly regarded
  • Available for an immediate start or able to commence on short notice.
  • Cert III in Telecommunications or equivalent

  • Cert III Electrical / A Grade Electrical Licence

  • Experience on major communications, defence, utilities or infrastructure projects

  • First Aid qualifications

  • EWP, Working at Heights or other relevant site tickets

  • Defence NV1 Clearance
