Electronics Engineer

ProFound People

An Australian R&D and engineering company developing advanced technology systems for defence applications is expanding its team and is now hiring an Electronics Engineer to support the upgrade, integration, and operation of a large precision instrumentation platform as it's brought online to support next-generation capability demonstrations.

You'll work across the full integration lifecycle, supporting the commissioning of a mission-critical precision system by reading and troubleshooting wiring diagrams, building and testing cable assemblies, verifying embedded electronics against test procedures, and maintaining tight documentation and change control. This system underpins future platform sales and next-stage technology programs, so precision and attention to detail matter. After an initial ramp-up period on this project, you'll fold into a broader electronics team, taking on mixed-signal PCB design and system-level electronics work.

This role would suit an engineer who enjoys autonomous, hands-on technical work in a field-based environment, and who's looking to grow into board-level electronics design as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

This is a full time, Canberra based role, with work centred on a dedicated field site. The role is largely on-site given the hands-on nature of the integration work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the upgrade, integration, testing, and operational readiness of a precision instrumentation platform hosting new technology capability
  • Read and work from wiring diagrams; build, troubleshoot, and test cable assemblies
  • Test embedded electronics and instrumentation against defined test procedures
  • Perform root cause analysis on system faults and irregularities
  • Maintain rigorous documentation and change management given the platform's role as a future baseline system
  • Collaborate closely with specialist engineering teams (including systems and mechanical) on a complex, multidisciplinary system
  • Operate autonomously on-site, exercising independent judgement with access to broader team support as needed
  • Following the initial project phase, transition into the core electronics team to contribute to mixed-signal PCB design and embedded electronics development

Requirements

  • Experience in instrumentation, electrical/electronic integration, or complex systems environments (e.g. industrial, mining, or similar hands-on technical settings)
  • Comfortable with cable building, wiring diagrams, and hardware troubleshooting
  • Solid electronics fundamentals with the capability to grow into PCB design and mixed-signal (analog/digital) work
  • Strong documentation discipline and a logical, methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions with minimal day-to-day supervision

Desirable but not mandatory

  • Background in scientific, industrial, or other specialist instrumentation
  • Some electrical engineering exposure, particularly around three-phase or generator-driven infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Altium (PCB layout) and SolidWorks
  • Experience with firmware or embedded software tools
  • Exposure to RF or EMC-related design work
