The Institute of Veterans’ Advocacy (IVA) is the peak professional body for veterans’ advocates, focused on supporting those who serve the veteran community. IVA strengthens the quality, consistency, and integrity of veteran advocacy by setting professional standards and building capability across the sector. The organization provides assurance and guidance to advocates and engages constructively with government, service providers, and the broader veteran community. IVA’s work helps ensure that veterans receive informed, ethical, and effective advocacy support.

Location: Canberra, with flexible work arrangements by agreement

Employment type: Part-time 12-month contract with a possibility of extension. Approx 20 hours per week (negotiable)

Salary: Salary will be based on experience and on negotiated hours per week. At a minimum, salary will be $30 per hour, plus superannuation, plus leave entitlements.

Role Description

Reporting to the CEO, the Member Services Officer will be the contact for IVA members and potential members. The role will provide responsive member support, administer membership and accreditation processes, maintain accurate records, and assist with communications, events and general administration.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys helping people, keeping systems organised, and making sure administrative processes are accurate, timely and professional.

This role is designed to work around real life. We are open to school-hours arrangements, study-friendly hours, or other flexible part-time patterns by agreement. This may suit someone looking for meaningful, flexible part-time work while balancing study, caring responsibilities, community commitments or a return to work.

Key responsibilities

The role will include:

  • responding to telephone, email and online enquiries
  • providing information about membership, accreditation, CPD, events and IVA services
  • processing membership applications, renewals, variations and resignations
  • maintaining accurate member and organisation records in Member Jungle and related systems
  • supporting accreditation and CPD administration
  • assisting with webinars, events, member communications and website updates
  • preparing routine correspondence, reports and administrative records

About you

You will have:

  • experience in customer service and office administration
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent attention to detail
  • confidence working with procedures, records and sensitive information
  • the ability to manage competing tasks and meet deadlines
  • competence with Microsoft 365 and digital tools such as Canva.

Experience in a membership organisation, professional body, charity or veteran-service environment would be well regarded but is not essential.
