Building Maintenance and Facilities Manager
Greystar (International)
Why work for Greystar?
At Greystar, we don't just manage buildings, we create communities where students live, learn, and make memories. As a global leader in real estate and student accommodation, we're growing our portfolio rapidly across Australia.
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Facilities Manager to lead maintenance and building operations across our two Redfern student communities. Both buildings are within 400 metres of each other and a short walk from Redfern Station - no car required, no travel between sites, just great work in a great location.
Why you'll love it here
- Walk to work – both sites are steps from Redfern Station, no car or travel required.
- All tools and equipment provided - hit the ground running from day one.
- Flexible and Stable - Permanent role with a fast-growing global company that’s here to stay.
- Great culture - fun, inclusive team that backs each other.
- Perks that matter - birthday leave, wellbeing initiatives, and a workplace that genuinely cares.
About the role
This is a varied, hands-on leadership role blending technical oversight with people management across two vibrant Redfern student communities. You'll report to the Community Manager and work closely with regional operations, contractors, and the wider property team. If you thrive on variety, take pride in delivering a high standard of presentation and customer satisfaction and enjoy leading and mentoring a team, this is the opportunity for you.
- Oversee all planned and reactive maintenance across both sites, on time and within budget.
- Develop and deliver preventative maintenance programs including statutory testing (fire alarms, HVAC, emergency lighting) with accurate records, ensuring compliance and ensuring operational functionality.
- Coordinate external contractors and suppliers in line with permits, insurance, and safety standards.
- Manage the make-ready process for vacant rooms - inspections, contractor scheduling, and quality checks.
- Support CapEx planning, budgeting, and project delivery with the Community Manager.
- Lead, coach, and support a team of Maintenance Technicians - including recruitment, training, performance reviews, and day-to-day supervision.
- Champion a WHS across both sites, providing a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained living environment, keeping communities safe for students, staff, and visitors.
- Provide ad hoc out-of-hours support for genuine emergencies – our onsite Community Assistants handle overnight operations, so this is rarely needed.
About you
You bring a track record in facilities or maintenance management and know how to lead a team, manage contractors, and keep a building performing at its best. You're as comfortable with compliance paperwork as you are getting hands-on when it counts.
You'll bring
- Proven experience in facilities or maintenance management - student accommodation, residential, hospitality, or similar customer facing environments.
- Strong WHS knowledge, statutory compliance, and preventative maintenance experience.
- CapEx and budget management skills with a cost-conscious, outcomes-focused approach.
- Experience supervising contractors and working with teams to maintain high-quality, compliant residential buildings.
- Confident people leader who brings out the best in a team.
- Strong communication and customer service skills with genuine care for the student experience.
- Trade qualifications or certifications (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) highly desirable but not essential.
Requirements
- Valid driver's licence or relevant national Identification
- Willingness to obtain a National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check.
