Junior IT Systems Administrator/Desktop Support
Direct Group Pty Ltd
Skip the bridge. Keep the career growth.
Tired of the daily slog into the CBD? If you live north of the bridge and you’d love to swap the commute for a short hop to the office, this one’s for you. We’re an on-site team based in Frenchs Forest so you get your mornings back without giving up the kind of work that actually moves your career forward.
We’re after someone with genuine enthusiasm for technology - a curious, energetic problem-solver who’s done their time on the front line and is ready to go deeper into systems administration and infrastructure.
About The Role
This is a blended infrastructure and support position, weighted roughly 70% Systems Administration / 30% Service Desk. It’s the ideal next step for someone with 3–5 years in an IT support role who wants to grow into infrastructure delivery while still keeping their hands-on support skills sharp.
You’ll be part of a dynamic, collaborative team responsible for keeping our systems running 24x7x365 - monitoring, securing, patching, and continuously improving how everything works.
What you’ll be doing
On the systems side
- Proactive and reactive monitoring to catch issues early and keep services running
- Security and application patching across servers, desktops, Macs, network and security infrastructure
- Maintaining backups, daily health checks, and keeping the documentation up to date
- Delivering infrastructure projects to agreed timelines and budget
- Acting as a Level 2/3 escalation point for server, virtualisation, storage, network and cloud issues
- Hunting for ways to automate and improve, not just keep the lights on
On the support side
- First and second level support for staff - in person, over the phone, and via email
- End-to-end ticket ownership through the IT ticketing system
- Supporting PCs, Macs, cloud, printers, meeting room AV, and VPN/wired/wireless networks
What we are looking for
- 3 - 5 years’ experience in an IT support role, ready to take the next step
- Strong skills with Microsoft Windows, M365 and Microsoft networking technologies
- Exposure to server, virtualisation, storage, network and cloud technologies a plus
- Apple Mac build, install and troubleshooting experience
- A solid grasp of monitoring, patching, backups and IT security best practice
- Excellent communication skills and a genuinely customer-focused attitude
- The ability to take ownership, prioritise well, and stay calm under pressure
- Enthusiasm - an energetic, curious approach and a real appetite to learn and grow
- Nice to have: Relevant IT qualifications (e.g. TAFE IT Certificate IV or equivalent); Microsoft certification.
Why you’ll like it here
- A clear step up from desktop support into infrastructure and systems administration
- A supportive, collaborative team that backs your development
- Real variety - no two days the same, and plenty of scope to make your mark
Employee Benefits
- Fantastic product discounts across the Group
- On-site café
- Free on-site parking
- Annual flu vaccination program
- A buzzing, collaborative culture where people genuinely love what they do
Sound like you? If you’re enthusiastic, ready for your next step, we’d love to hear from you.
