SEDA is experiencing strong growth and is seeking an experienced Software and Firmware Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, verification, and maintenance of embedded firmware and low-level software supporting missile seeker and gimbal products.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this role will be responsible for developing real-time software running on ARM and GPU-based processors, and interfacing with sensors, actuators, inertial measurement units, imaging systems, motor controllers, and supporting electronics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for EO/IR sensors, AI Engines for Optronics and Track Management Software products.
  • Develop software in C and C++ for ARM-based microprocessors and microcontrollers.
  • Development of target detection, tracking and classification algorithms and commercial grade software using ARM and or GPU based processors.
  • Support development of engineering tools, test applications and integration utilities using C# where appropriate.
  • Implement interfaces to sensors, inertial measurement units (IMUs), encoders, resolvers, cameras and actuator systems.
  • Develop software supporting line-of-sight stabilization, tracking and guidance functions in conjunction with GNC engineers.
  • Implement real-time control, data acquisition and signal-processing functions.
  • Develop low-level device drivers, board-support packages and hardware abstraction layer
  • Integrate firmware with FPGA, electronics and hardware subsystems.

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) as a minimum.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 10+ years of embedded software development experience.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in embedded systems or software engineering are advantageous; additional postgraduate studies in control systems, aerospace engineering, or related fields are desirable.
  • Proven experience in taking products from prototype through to commercial delivery and field deployment (not just prototype delivery).
  • Demonstrated ability to define system architecture, allocate functions across engineering domains, and manage inter-domain interfaces.
  • Experience in establishing and implementing verification & validation (V&V) programs, including the development of Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP/ATProcs) and formal acceptance processes with Defence or commercial clients.
