  • Band 3 Salary from $33.29 - $35.38 per hour plus superannuation

About The Role

City of Ballarat are seeking to employ a part time Cook to work in the kitchen at the Wenodouree Children’s Centre. The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to increase hours by covering planned and unplanned leave across 2 services. The Centre cook works to support the health and wellbeing of the children in care through the preparation of nutritious and attractive meals and snacks. The Centre Cook is required to deliver the following objectives:

  • Plan menus meeting the requirements of Nutrition Australian guidelines, in conjunction with educators, parents and children, which reflect the diverse and complex nutritional requirements of young children.
  • Order and purchase supplies and complete monthly account reconciliations in consultation with the centre coordinator and within budget.
  • Interact in a positive and proactive manner with all team members children and families.

About You

Ideally the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the preparation and provision of food on a small commercial basis and will have the following certifications or be willing to obtain them prior to commencement:

  • Food handlers Certificate level 2
  • Food safety supervisor Certificate or willing to obtain
  • Working with Children Check
  • A satisfactory National Police Check

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and presentation of food on a small commercial scale
  • Demonstrated capacity to work within a budget
  • Capacity and willingness to work as part of a team in a work environment
  • Sound written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of child nutritional needs and requirements
  • Food handlers certificate level 2
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work areas
  • Experience using MS Office and web-based programs.
