About the Role
FRAMED, an independent feature documentary, is looking for a resourceful Archive Producer / Archive Researcher / Archivist - one role rolled into one - to source, track and clear the archival material that will bring our story to life. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves the hunt: digging through collections, chasing rights holders and bringing order to a mountain of footage, stills and documents.
What You'll Do
- Research and source archival footage, photographs, audio, news material and documents across Australian and international collections
- Identify rights holders, request access and negotiate the best possible licensing terms within an indie budget, including for existing archives
- Track, log and organise all archive assets, sources, usage and clearance status
- Manage licensing paperwork, permissions and chain-of-title documentation
- Advise the director and producers on the availability, cost and creative options for archival material
- Liaise with archives, libraries, broadcasters, agencies and private collectors
- Ensure every asset is properly cleared, credited and delivery-compliant
You Are
- Demonstrated experience as an archive producer, archive researcher, archivist or in a similar role on documentary or factual projects
- Strong knowledge of archival sources, libraries and rights and clearance processes
- Excellent research, organisation and record-keeping skills, with sharp attention to detail
- Confidence in negotiating licences and working within a limited budget
- Resourceful, discreet and comfortable working to tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Australian and international archives is highly regarded
The Details
This is an independent feature documentary with a limited budget, and we want to be upfront about that. Payment will, however, be above the relevant MEAA award rate. We value the work and pay for it fairly.
- Freelance or contract engagement for the duration of the project
- Hybrid role based in Sydney, with a mix of remote and in-person work
- Payment above the relevant MEAA award rate, to be discussed with shortlisted candidates
