About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about protecting your community, solving problems and delivering quality customer service? Parkes Shire Council is seeking a motivated and professional
Ranger/Parking Officer to join our Regulatory Services team.
This is a diverse and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll work across a broad range of regulatory and compliance functions, helping to maintain public safety, protect community amenity and ensure compliance with legislation and Council policies.
As a Ranger/Parking Officer, you will undertake a wide variety of regulatory responsibilities including:
- Investigating complaints and responding to customer enquiries
- Enforcing parking regulations and undertaking public space patrols
- Managing companion animal matters, including animal control, impounding, investigations and shelter operations
- Conducting inspections and investigations, gathering evidence and preparing enforcement documentation
- Issuing Penalty Infringement Notices, Official Cautions, Orders and other statutory notices where appropriate
- Preparing investigation briefs and representing Council in Court or Tribunals when required
- Working collaboratively with NSW Government agencies, emergency services, veterinarians, animal welfare organisations and the community
- Maintaining accurate records, reports and statutory documentation
- Contributing to the day-to-day operation of Council's Animal Shelter Facility

About You
The successful applicant requires strong communication and teamwork skills. To be successful in this position you will need:
- Current and maintained NSW Driver's Licence
- A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience, ideally in a regulatory, compliance or Local Government Ranger role
- Experience working with small and large animals
- Strong communication, customer service, investigation and conflict resolution skills
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, exercise sound judgement and maintain professionalism in challenging situations
- Well-developed organisational and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to prepare reports, correspondence and maintain accurate records
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team while contributing to a positive workplace culture
- A commitment to safety, reliability and delivering high-quality community services
- The flexibility to participate in after-hours and on-call work and undertake role-specific training, including dangerous dog handling if required
- Compliance with the immunisation requirements of the position (or willingness to obtain)
It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:
- Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.
The role has been evaluated as being
Grade 9 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing salary of $70,108.50 ($35.48 per hour) to $80,624.78 ($40.80). The commencing salary to be determined upon the qualifications, skills and experience of the successful candidates.
