A Director is sought to provide strategic, scientific and operational leadership for this national capability. The role is responsible for delivering NCI’s mission, shaping its future direction, fostering partnerships across Australian research and innovation system, and leading the technical and professional workforce that underpins NCI’s services and impact.

NCI is Australia’s one of two Tier-1 high-performance data, storage and computing organisations, providing expert services to benefit all domains of science, government and industry. NCI brings the Australian Government and the Australian research sector together through a broad collaboration involving the largest national science agencies, universities, industry and the Australian Research Council.

The Director is accountable to the NCI Board for the effective stewardship of NCI’s resources, the delivery of its strategic objectives, and the performance of the organisation. The Director works closely with the Board Chair and the ANU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure and Entities) through the Executive Panel to implement Board strategy, support effective governance, and ensure alignment between NCI’s national mission and its operational delivery. The position requires extensive engagement with government, research institutions, industry partners, international collaborators and funding agencies.

The Director is expected to represent NCI and contribute thought leadership on the future of advanced computing, data infrastructure, artificial intelligence, digital research platforms and related national capability priorities.
