About the role
MUFG is seeking a Vice President, Trade Client Service to join their Transaction Banking division in Sydney. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to become a key interface between high-profile clients and internal teams, ensuring seamless execution of complex trade finance transactions across international markets. You will be at the forefront of delivering exceptional client service and technical support for products such as Bank Guarantees, Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs), and Documentary Letters of Credit (LCs).

What you'll do
As Vice President, you will play an integral role shaping the client journey through every stage of their trade finance transactions. You will collaborate extensively with internal teams, including Relationship Managers and Product Specialists, ensuring each transaction is executed flawlessly from initiation through settlement. Your ability to anticipate challenges before they arise will be crucial in maintaining the highest standards of service delivery.
Your day to day responsibilities will include:
- Serve as the main contact for trade finance clients by managing enquiries, overseeing transaction execution, and resolving issues efficiently to ensure an outstanding client experience.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of trade transactions including issuance, advising, amendments, settlements of LCs, SBLCs, and Guarantees while managing post-issuance follow-ups with both clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and promptly in accordance with client requirements and internal standards to maintain operational excellence.
- Proactively identify potential operational or transactional issues before they impact clients by collaborating closely with internal teams to deliver timely solutions.
- Act as a subject matter expert on documentary trade products such as import/export LCs, Bank Guarantees, SBLC structures, trade loans, and associated instruments by providing technical guidance to both clients and colleagues.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICC rules (UCP, ISP, URDG) and market practices while assisting with credit request narrations and supporting structuring discussions on trade transactions.
- Coordinate with regional and global teams to facilitate seamless cross-border transaction handling while navigating regulatory requirements across multiple markets.
- Support client onboarding processes, conduct service reviews, manage due diligence updates, handle exceptional procedures, and contribute to product deepening initiatives.
- Partner closely with Relationship Managers, Trade Sales/Product teams, Operations, Credit, and Compliance functions to ensure comprehensive service delivery and identify cross-sell opportunities.
- Champion risk control by ensuring all activities comply with internal policies/procedures and external regulations; manage FI limits/trade limits/transaction controls within approved frameworks.
What you bring
To excel in this position, you will bring a wealth of hands-on experience from previous roles in trade finance or transaction banking environments. Your background should reflect not only technical mastery over core products like LCs and SBLCs but also a nuanced understanding of how these instruments operate within different regulatory frameworks worldwide. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build rapport quickly both externally with clients who rely on your expertise for critical business decisions and internally where collaboration drives successful outcomes.
- 5+ years’ experience in trade finance or transaction banking client service or operations within a reputable financial institution is essential for success in this role.
- Experience within an international bank or global financial institution is highly desirable with exposure to credit processes/trade loan products/structured trade solutions.
- Undergraduate degree I Business / Commerce / Economics required
- Deep technical understanding of Letters of Credit (LCs), Standby LCs (SBLCs), Bank Guarantees along with practical application of ICC rules such as UCP, ISP, URDG is required.
- Demonstrated ability to identify business development opportunities or revenue expansion prospects through proactive engagement with clients.
- Familiarity with regional regulatory environments across APAC/Australia would be advantageous.
- Proven track record managing cross-border transactions involving international clients while navigating multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments effectively.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills enabling you to collaborate seamlessly across departments including Relationship Management, Product Development/Sales teams as well as Operations/Credit/Compliance functions.
- Strong communication skills allowing you to influence outcomes positively while providing clear technical guidance internally/externally.
- High attention to detail combined with acute risk awareness ensures compliance with all relevant policies/regulations without compromising service quality.
