Engineering Team Lead

A successful Brisbane based technology company is hiring an Engineering Lead to head up one of its agile product teams. This permanent role offers $175,000 to $185,000 plus Superannuation, based in inner city Brisbane with hybrid working. You'll lead a cross-functional team building cloud-native SaaS products, balancing hands-on technical leadership with genuine people development.

As Engineering Lead, you'll operate as a true trio partner alongside a Product Manager and Designer, co-owning outcomes rather than simply managing delivery. This isn't a role for someone who wants to hoard the hard problems. The organisation is specifically looking for a leader who makes the people around them better, someone who builds psychological safety, mentors generously, and raises the bar through their own example.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead an agile product team to deliver working, high-quality software every sprint
• Provide technical direction on architecture, scalability, security and performance
• Contribute hands-on to design, development, test automation and maintenance where needed
• Champion modern engineering practices including CI/CD, DevOps, SRE and automated testing
• Mentor and coach engineers, creating stretch opportunities and giving direct feedback
• Partner closely with Product and Design to sequence work and de-risk delivery
• Collaborate with other Engineering Leads to drive broader technology and process improvements
• Support product rollout, adoption and ongoing operational performance

What You'll Need (Essential)

• Proven leadership of an agile or Scrum-based engineering team
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with genuine coaching and mentoring ability
• Experience delivering cloud-native SaaS products using DevOps, CI/CD and automation practices
• Sound understanding of modular, scalable and resilient software architecture and system integration
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and React
• Ability to balance technical, customer, operational and commercial considerations in product decisions
• Demonstrated experience solving ambiguous problems and breaking work into valuable, sequenced increments

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform and PostgreSQL
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab, Jira and Confluence
• Exposure to test frameworks including Playwright, Selenium or Jest
• Understanding of REST, gRPC, JSON or Protobuf integration protocols
• Background in transportation, intelligent systems, or other complex infrastructure-driven environments
• Tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
