Renewable Energy Engineer

Hays

Your new company

Our client is a well-established renewable energy developer with a long-term investment strategy that sets them apart from many organisations in the market. Rather than developing projects and selling them, they develop, own and operate their renewable energy assets for the long term, creating a genuine owner’s mindset across the business. They have a growing portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects and offer employees the rare opportunity to work across the full project life cycle—from development and design through to construction, operation and asset optimisation.

The business has built a reputation for its collaborative culture, strong technical capability and commitment to developing its people. This is an opportunity to work alongside highly experienced renewable energy professionals while gaining exposure to some of the most exciting projects in the Australian market.

Your new role

As a Renewable Energy Engineer, you will support the development and delivery of utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia and New Zealand. Working closely with development, planning, engineering and commercial teams, you will play a key role in project design optimisation, resource assessment and energy modelling activities.

This position provides excellent exposure to project development and offers the opportunity to build your technical expertise across multiple renewable energy technologies while working directly for an owner and operator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise layouts for utility-scale solar and solar-plus-storage projects.
  • Conduct energy yield assessments and resource analysis using industry-standard methodologies.
  • Undertake solar resource assessments, data quality control and generation profile analysis.
  • Support resource assessment and energy modelling activities across both solar and wind developments.
  • Manage and coordinate monitoring campaigns and contractor activities across development sites.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project suitability and support development activities.
  • Maintain engineering datasets, technical libraries and project documentation.
  • Support technical studies relating to planning and development activities, including noise, glint and glare, shadow flicker, EMI, geotechnical and hydrology assessments.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Engineering degree, ideally in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Approximately 2–5 years' experience in utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects.
  • Experience supporting renewable energy project development, engineering or delivery.
  • Strong understanding of solar energy modelling and resource assessment.
  • Experience with PVsyst and bankable energy yield modelling.
  • Exposure to utility-scale battery storage projects or hybrid renewable energy developments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience managing large datasets.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine desire to build a long-term career within the renewable energy sector.

What you'll get in return

  • Join a renewable energy developer that owns and operates its assets for the long term.
  • Work on utility-scale solar and BESS projects helps shape Australia's energy transition.
  • Excellent mentoring and career development opportunities.
  • Long-term career progression within a growing organisation.
  • Opportunity to broaden your experience across multiple renewable energy technologies.
