About The Organisation

Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,700 young people in 22 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 10 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses. They enable young people to engage in education in a supported learning environment through a methodology based on trauma informed practice, to co-create a Common Ground using Operation by Principles, in which the principles of Honesty, Respect, Participation, Safe & Legal are embedded. Our special schools serve young people with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.

St Joseph's Catholic Flexible School Darwin offers a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Flexible Schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.

About The Role

The Cook will report directly to the Head of Campus and is expected to work collaboratively with all staff and young people in the school. The primary role of Cook is a stand-alone role that will be required to prepare and provide healthy meals to the young people who attend St Joseph's Catholic Flexible School - Darwin.

About You

ESSENTIAL:

  • A Working with Children Clearance Notice (Blue Card)
  • Current driver’s licence (essential) or Light Rigid license (highly desirable)

Highly Desirable

  • Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain within first 3 months of employment.
  • Currently hold or ability to obtain a Food Handler Certificate and Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (within first 3 months of employment)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the preparation of meals in line with School nutrition and healthy eating guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of equipment utilised in the preparation of school meals.
  • Ability to share knowledge in the application of safe food practices in the preparation, storage and provision of meals with staff and young people.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition
  • A commitment to the ongoing and proactive protection and safeguarding of children, young people, and adults at risk of abuse
  • Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of the local First Nations communities
