The Role

Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, you'll oversee the end-to-end payroll function for approximately 800-900 weekly employees, leading one direct report.

This role combines payroll leadership with upcoming projects and continuous improvement initiatives. You'll ensure payroll accuracy, compliance and governance, while partnering closely with HR and providing hands-on support where required to deliver an efficient payroll function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll function for approximately 800-900 weekly employees, leading and supporting one direct report
  • Ensure payroll is delivered accurately, on time and in line with Australian payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and company policies
  • Review and audit payroll, providing expert guidance on complex payroll matters, compliance and governance
  • Partner closely with HR and key stakeholders to oversee employee lifecycle changes and ensure payroll accuracy
  • Lead payroll projects and continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiencies
  • Analyse payroll data, reporting and controls to support informed decision-making and operational excellence
  • Provide leadership and technical support to the payroll team while remaining hands-on where required

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll position
  • Strong end-to-end payroll knowledge within a complex, high-volume environment
  • Excellent understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Awards and Enterprise Agreements
  • Previous experience leading or mentoring payroll team members
  • Experience with iChris will be highly regarded
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks, solve problems and drive improvements
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively across HR and the wider business
