LET’S EXPLORE THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Technician – DMR Specialist to join our growing Critical Communications team.
In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, commissioning, maintenance and support of Motorola MOTOTRBO Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) systems, ensuring reliable, secure and high-performance communications for customers operating in critical and challenging environments.
Working across a variety of projects and industries, you will deploy and support advanced radio networks including IP Site Connect, Capacity Plus, Capacity Max and associated applications, while providing technical expertise across RF infrastructure, subscriber equipment and network integrations.
System Installation & Commissioning
- Install, configure and commission Motorola MOTOTRBO repeaters, subscriber radios, system servers and applications.
- Deploy and support DMR architectures including IP Site Connect, Capacity Plus, Capacity Max and TRBOnet environments.
- Program radio terminals and infrastructure using Motorola Radio Manager (RM) and Customer Programming Software (CPS).
- Install and align RF equipment, antennas, feeder systems and associated infrastructure.
Operations & Maintenance
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on DMR infrastructure and subscriber equipment.
- Monitor system performance and conduct RF and network diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot RF, hardware, software and IP networking issues.
- Perform firmware upgrades, patch management and hardware replacements.
System Integration
- Configure voice and data networks using Motorola MOTOTRBO technologies.
- Integrate DMR systems with IP backhaul, microwave networks and dispatch platforms.
- Support customer applications including GPS tracking, telemetry and text messaging solutions.
Technical Support & Documentation
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support to customers and operational teams.
- Maintain programming records, technical documentation and configuration logs.
- Produce commissioning reports and as-built documentation.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with ACMA licensing requirements and industry standards.
- Follow WHS requirements and cybersecurity best practices.
- Support safe work practices across metropolitan, regional and remote environments.
LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
You are a technically capable communications professional who thrives on solving complex challenges and delivering high-quality customer outcomes.
You will bring:
- Certificate or Diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in radio communications environments.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Motorola MOTOTRBO DMR systems.
- Strong knowledge of MOTOTRBO system architecture, deployment and support.
- Experience with SLR5500, SLR8000 or similar repeater platforms.
- Sound understanding of RF propagation, antenna systems, duplexers, and combiners.
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals including routing, switching, VLANs, and QoS.
- Ability to interpret RF path profiles, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to regional and remote sites.
Desirable:
- ACMA Open Cabling Registration.
- RF Awareness certification.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Experience supporting customers in mining, resources, utilities, or critical communications environments.
- Experience working remotely and independently in field-based roles.
