About the role

As the long-term investment manager for the state of Queensland, the State Investments team acts as a trusted investment partner to Queensland Government clients, managing diversified portfolios and providing strategic investment advice across a broad range of asset classes. Join QIC's State Investments team and gain hands-on exposure to portfolio construction, investment strategy and private markets investing across Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Debt and Private Equity. Working alongside experienced investment professionals, you'll help manage portfolios on behalf of Queensland Government clients while contributing to investment decisions, research projects and stakeholder engagement activities. This is a unique opportunity for someone beginning their investment career who wants broad exposure and meaningful responsibility.

Key responsibilities

• Support portfolio construction, asset allocation reviews and investment implementation activities.
• Contribute to strategy papers, presentations and portfolio reporting for stakeholders and clients.
• Assist with investment manager selection, due diligence, monitoring and review processes.
• Gather, analyse and interpret investment and market data to deliver actionable insights.
• Drive process improvement initiatives that enhance investment decision-making, reporting and operational efficiency.
• Support research projects across private equity, private debt, infrastructure and real estate portfolios.
• Utilise emerging technologies and AI tools to improve analysis and workflow effectiveness.
Participate in internal and external manager meetings, ensuring actions and outcomes are documented and progressed

About you

• Experience in investments, financial services, consulting, research or a related field.
• Degree qualified in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and provide insights.
• Naturally curious with a genuine interest in markets and investing.
• Confident communicator who can engage with stakeholders and present ideas clearly.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.
