Ventia Engineering Services is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Substation Primary Designer to join our specialist design team. Working across major transmission, substations and renewable energy projects, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality primary design solutions for some of Australia's most critical infrastructure projects.

About the Role
As a Substation Primary Designer, you will work closely with engineers, project teams and fellow designers to develop detailed primary substation designs from concept through to construction and as-built documentation. You'll be responsible for producing high-quality drawings and models while ensuring compliance with client requirements, utility standards and Australian Standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing high voltage primary substation design drawing packages
- Developing general arrangement drawings, layouts, sections and elevations for high voltage switchyards
- Producing 2D and 3D models of primary substation equipment
- Preparing earthing, lightning protection, cable trench and conduit layouts
- Conducting electrical clearance checks and supporting safety-in-design outcomes
- Reviewing vendor documentation and incorporating those in drawings
- Mentoring and providing technical guidance across the drafting team as required
About You
You are an experienced substation designer with a strong background delivering primary design solutions in consulting, utilities or project environments. You bring a practical understanding of high-voltage substation projects and enjoy working collaboratively to solve complex design challenges.
You will ideally have:
- Demonstrated design or drafting experience within the power or utilities sector
- Experience delivering high-voltage substation projects
- Qualifications in Engineering Design, Engineering Drafting or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong capability with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Experience interpreting utility standards, client specifications and vendor information
- Able to develop electrical design drawings based on engineering input and client standards with minimal guidance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
