About the Company
Resourceful Recruitment has partnered with a leading renewable energy developer with a substantial and growing portfolio of solar, wind, and BESS projects across Australia. As the business scales its development pipeline, it's seeking an experienced Principal Grid Engineer to provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from initial site selection through to Registration and unconstrained operation.
Key Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer will provide advanced technical expertise and leadership across the grid connection function, working across the full lifecycle of the business's Australian renewable energy projects. The role carries direct oversight of a grid engineer and an AEMO Grid Graduate, and acts as the technical escalation point for complex grid connection challenges across the portfolio.
- Lead power system studies including NER compliance, system strength (Withstand SCR) tuning, power quality and harmonic filter design, and protection coordination.
- Oversee development and validation of RMS and EMT models across solar, wind, BESS, hydrogen and hybrid technologies.
- Prepare and review Connection Enquiry and Application to Connect submissions, and lead studies through R0, R1 and R2 phases to Registration and unconstrained operation.
- Support negotiation of Generator Performance Standards and Connection Agreements with NSPs and AEMO.
- Act as technical reviewer and sign-off authority for grid connection deliverables across the team.
- Mentor and develop engineers and graduates, contributing to technical standards and modelling practices across the function.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across internal teams, NSPs, AEMO, EPC contractors and OEMs.
About You
- Bachelor of Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
- 5+ experience in power systems, with CPEng, NER or RPEQ highly regarded.
- Highly skilled user of PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSS/E for grid connection studies.
- Expert understanding of NER Chapter 5 Schedule 5.2 and broad power systems analysis expertise relevant to asynchronous generating systems.
- Track record leading complex technical negotiations with AEMO, NSPs and OEMs.
- Proven technical leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and develop engineering talent.
- Strong report writing, stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
