We are seeking an experienced

Coding Auditor / Educator to support coding accuracy, data quality, and continuous improvement across our hospital network. This position is responsible for completion of coding audits for all SJG admissions to ensure accurate ICD-10-AM code assignment for data quality, benchmarking and funding. This position is also responsible for conducting and participating in audits based on health fund contracts, and the development of a contemporary coding audit framework.

Working closely with stakeholders across hospitals, you will identify short-, medium- and long-term training needs informed by audit outcomes, clinical documentation reviews, and feedback from clinical teams.

The Position

  • Conduct comprehensive audits of clinical coding to ensure accuracy and compliance with Australian Coding Standards and revenue integrity.
  • Assist with management of health fund contract audits.
  • Collaborate with SJGHC Coding Auditor/Educators in coordinating the audit and education cycle to identify areas for improvement and skill building with the objective of continually improving coding accuracy and optimising revenue.
  • Plan, develop and implement ongoing coding education for the National Coding Team ensuring programs enable the growth and development of both new and existing team members.
  • Assist with undertaking the coding trainee program.
  • Identify clinical documentation deficiencies during coding audit and provide documentation opportunity recommendations to the Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS).
  • Maintain coding skills by regular completion of clinical coding.

You will bring a Bachelor of Health Information Management (or equivalent tertiary qualification) or a recognised Clinical Coding qualification. You will also demonstrate a minimum of five years’ clinical coding experience, ideally gained within a tertiary hospital setting, supported by a strong understanding of coding standards and a commitment to accuracy and best practice.

You will bring strong verbal and written communication skills, along with solid PC proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office applications. You will have demonstrated experience in reviewing and auditing clinical coding, with proven capability using the current ICD-10-AM classification within the Australian health sector. An understanding of Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs) will further support your ability to contribute to accurate data reporting and funding outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you will be a detail-oriented and adaptable professional who can apply your technical expertise in diverse clinical environments. Your ability to travel across SJGHC sites in Victoria, Western Australia, and New South Wales, combined with your collaborative approach and commitment to best practice, will enable you to effectively support coding quality and capability uplift across the organisation.

We can offer you

  • Salary: $120,000 to $140,000 per annum, plus 12% superannuation
  • Can be based from our Perth, Kings Square officer or our Melbourne, Collins St Office
  • Permanent, full-time opportunity – working 38 hours per week
  • Working from home arrangement in place – minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
