Senior Internal Auditor
Bendigo Bank
We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. Come and join the better big bank where we’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.
It begins here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.
At Bendigo Bank, our vision is to be Australia’s leading customer-connected banking group. We are a proudly Australian bank with a strong community focus and a commitment to providing our people with genuine flexibility, empowering you to do your best work while balancing your life. Joining us means stepping into a supportive environment that champions your career development, embraces transformation, and values the unique expertise you bring to the table.
You will be joining our Group Internal Audit (GIA) function—a growing and dynamic team focused on uplifting our capabilities and driving strategic outcomes across the Bank. Acting as the third line of defence, GIA provides independent, critical assurance to the Board Audit Committee, Executive leaders, and our business units. Our work ensures that our control environment is robust, operations are managed within our risk appetite, and that we continuously make it easier for our customers to do business with us.
As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will take ownership of complex audit engagements and be given a high degree of autonomy in your execution. You will partner with senior stakeholders, including Executives and Board committees, to provide clear, actionable insights into the Group’s control environment. This is a unique opportunity to not only execute end-to-end audits but also actively contribute to the strategic direction of our audit methodology.
What you will be responsible for:
- Leading and executing comprehensive Audit Entity, Thematic, and Regulatory Compliance reviews in line with the Strategic Audit Plan.
- Identifying risks, assessing control effectiveness, and developing value-adding recommendations for management.
- Generating high-quality, impactful audit reports and presenting your findings to senior leaders and committees.
- Building and maintaining trusted, collaborative relationships across the first and second lines of defence.
- Mentoring and supporting our Internal Auditors to foster a high-performing and collaborative team culture.
About you
We are seeking an inherently curious and resourceful professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can navigate ambiguity with ease. You embrace material change and transformation, bringing a strategic mindset to every engagement.
Ideally, you will bring:
- A strong background in internal audit, ideally gained within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications coupled with a CA or CPA certification (or equivalent, such as CIA/CISA).
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence and partner effectively at all levels of the Bank.
- Advanced report-writing skills, with the ability to distil complex findings into clear, concise insights for Executive audiences.
- Broad capabilities in data analytics (including sample testing) and an interest in leveraging AI concepts to drive innovative and efficient audit delivery.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity that can be based in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney or Bendigo. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, working in a hybrid model with a minimum local Head Office attendance requirement determined by your Leader, to find a rhythm that works best for you and your team. We believe that coming into the office some of the time is the best way to learn, stay connected and collaborate effectively, especially for key activities like team days, 1:1s, and town halls.
So, why work with us?
- Want to be more than just a number? Join a team that truly values you – and that gets more and more diverse every day.
You’ll also get access to a great range of benefits, including:
- Hybrid work? Flexible hours? A compressed work week? Our flexible work options are designed to suit your life.
- Health and wellbeing support, including discounted gym memberships, private health insurance options, and our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your immediate family members.
We’re making better, bigger. And we’ll get there with you.
If you are ready to take on a new challenge and build something lasting, we encourage you to apply and join us on our journey. Now’s the time to set your sights higher – on the future you deserve. Apply now!
