Atlassian Data & Analytics | Contract Role
ROLE OVERVIEW
This role sits at the intersection of data analytics and Atlassian platform expertise. The Insights Specialist will independently manage metrics and analytics delivery across both tactical and strategic workstreams, supporting an organisation mid-transition from Atlassian Data Centre (DC) to Cloud. The successful candidate will balance urgent, short-lived reporting needs with longer-term, strategically aligned analytics — all while working with minimal oversight and collaborating directly with senior stakeholders including C-suite executives.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
✓ Atlassian Jira (DC & Cloud)
✓ JQL & Atlassian Data Model
✓ Agile / Lean / Flow Metrics
✓ PowerBI Reporting
✓ Requirements Discovery
✓ Stakeholder Engagement
✓ Confluence
✓ Data & Metrics Visualisation
✓ Self-starter / Independent Delivery
✓ Executive Communication
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Metrics & Analytics Delivery
– Independently manage and respond to evolving metrics and analytics demands, both tactical and strategic
– Triage incoming demands, surface trade-off decisions, and validate priorities when they contend for the same resources
– Deliver tactical reporting quickly (short shelf-life outputs acceptable) while ensuring strategic outputs align with Group Reporting direction
– Advise stakeholders on the appropriate delivery approach based on longevity and business value
Discovery & Requirements Definition
– Lead discovery and requirements definition for: Quarterly and Annual Planning Metrics (Readiness, Hygiene, etc.)
– Delivery Improvement Metrics and Trends: slicing improvements, readiness improvements, flow metrics (tactical and strategic)
– Mid-transition workarounds where teams span both DC and Cloud environments
– Replacement of critical PowerBI reports currently drawing from DC data, migrating to Cloud data sources
– Jira hygiene initiatives to ensure the reliability and accuracy of all metrics and reports
– Additional report discovery, design, and delivery as requirements emerge
Jira & Work Management
– Translate discovered requirements into structured work breakdowns written directly in Jira
– Contribute to understanding of the existing DC configuration for tactical needs
– Contribute to the emerging Cloud configuration design for strategic alignment
Reporting & Visualisation
– Deliver tactical or lower-priority metrics via Confluence (where possible)
– Develop more complex reporting in PowerBI, including all supporting data infrastructure required
– Validate requirements and present outcomes directly with executives (e.g. CTO-level stakeholders on Flow Metrics)
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Technical — Essential
– Atlassian Jira expertise across both Data Centre (DC) and Cloud environments
– Strong command of JQL (Jira Query Language) and the underlying Atlassian data model
– Ability to rapidly understand and work within an existing DC configuration
– Experience building or supporting PowerBI reports, including data sourcing and pipeline setup
– Familiarity with Confluence as a reporting and documentation platform
Domain Knowledge — Highly Valued
– Strong understanding of Agile and Lean / Flow methodologies and associated metrics
– Experience defining, measuring, and visualising delivery metrics and trends
– Knowledge of how BEN currently has Jira configured — considered a significant advantage
Soft Skills — Essential
– Proven self-starter: able to receive a problem statement and independently discover, scope, and deliver a solution
– Effective communicator at all levels, including direct engagement with C-suite and senior technology leaders
– Strong ability to manage ambiguity, define requirements where none exist, and communicate trade-offs clearly
– Collaborative and responsive to onshore Australian stakeholders with minimal turnaround time required
LOCATION & WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
Onshore (Australia) presence is required for this role. The majority of stakeholders are located on the Eastern seaboard, and the nature of the work demands frequent, low-latency collaboration — waiting a day for feedback or rework is not viable in this environment.
– Eastern Australia time zone strongly preferred (or equivalent significant overlap)
– In-office attendance required for workshopping and key collaboration sessions
– Regular real-time engagement with engineering, delivery, and executive stakeholders
ENGAGEMENT CONTEXT
This is a contract role supporting an Atlassian DC-to-Cloud transition programme. The Insights Specialist will need to be comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve, priorities shift, and some work may ultimately be discarded in favour of the end-state Cloud solution. The ability to stay productive and focused — without waiting for perfect clarity — is essential to success in this role.
