About the Role

Reporting to the Assistant Principal, VCE VM, this role supports the learning and engagement of students enrolled in the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) program.

Working closely with teachers, you will provide one-to-one and small group support for students with diverse learning needs, assist with classroom activities and applied learning, and contribute to an inclusive learning environment that encourages students to participate, engage and take personal responsibility for their learning.

This position suits someone who enjoys working collaboratively with teachers and supporting young people to achieve positive learning outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation and delivery, including gathering and organising materials, adapting activities and supporting students during classroom activities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to reinforce learning concepts, provide additional practice and address individual learning needs
  • Support applied learning and project-based learning activities as directed by the teacher
  • Promote students' social and emotional wellbeing by building positive relationships and encouraging social skills
  • Establish and maintain a learning environment that empowers students to take personal responsibility for their learning
  • Collaborate with teachers to foster classroom environments that support student engagement
  • Promote inclusive classroom environments where all students can actively participate in learning activities
  • Maintain regular communication with VCE VM teachers and the Assistant Principal regarding student progress and any issues or concerns
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with diverse needs
  • Work in accordance with Melbourne Polytechnic policies, procedures and legislative requirements

  • Experience supporting students in a classroom environment
  • Ability to support students using online learning platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Confidence working independently with students
  • Ability to relate to and engage with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Professional approach with the ability to respond to student needs
  • Good problem-solving, organisational and time management skills
  • Empathy for senior secondary students and an understanding of diverse learning needs

Desirable

  • Experience working within a senior secondary or vocational education environment
