The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) Enginee r to provide specialist engineering and technical expertise supporting High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment across the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and broader Australian Government. This is a highly specialised position responsible for the technical certification, engineering management, lifecycle support, and governance of cryptographic systems that protect Australia's most sensitive communications.
Working within a regulated engineering environment, you will collaborate with Defence stakeholders, acquisition projects, logistics teams, and COMSEC specialists to ensure HACE capabilities remain secure, compliant, and operationally effective.
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical certification and engineering change activities for HACE devices.
- Perform testing and evaluation of HACE equipment, including the development of Test Plans and Test Reports.
- Provide specialist engineering and technical advice on in-service HACE capabilities within assigned Technical Authority responsibilities.
- Support Defence acquisition projects by providing expert advice on HACE engineering and integration.
- Implement and maintain the regulated engineering framework governing HACE management.
- Assist with technical inspections, audits, and investigations relating to HACE COMSEC incidents.
- Provide ongoing engineering support throughout the HACE equipment lifecycle, including collaboration with logistics teams and COMSEC Platoon.
- Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer on HACE equipment as required.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with Defence standards, security requirements, and governance frameworks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HACE engineering processes and documentation.
As the ideal candidate you will bring
- Significant experience supporting High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) within the Australian Government or Defence environment.
- Demonstrated experience with the TACLANE family of High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryption (HAIPE) devices.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, technical certification, and engineering change processes.
- Experience conducting technical testing, evaluation, and documentation development.
- Ability to provide expert technical advice across engineering, acquisition, and sustainment activities.
- Experience supporting COMSEC operations and cryptographic capability management.
- Experience working within an Accredited Australian Engineering Organisation (highly desirable).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary Defence and Government teams.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent recognised engineering qualification) in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance and Australian citizenship required to be eligible.
