About The Opportunity
Drive the future of Australia's rail network through advanced optimisation and simulation.
At ARTC, we're transforming how Australia's national rail network is planned and operated. This is a rare opportunity to lead the evolution from traditional planning to dynamic, data-driven network optimisation that improves capacity, reliability and customer outcomes across one of the world's largest rail networks.
As our Network Optimisation Lead, you'll become the organisation's technical authority for network modelling, simulation and optimisation, leading the configuration and continual improvement of RailSys and other optimisation tools to unlock network capacity and improve operational performance.

Responsibilities Include
- Lead the optimisation, simulation and configuration of RailSys and advanced planning systems across the ARTC network.
- Develop dynamic planning, scheduling and simulation models that improve network capacity, on-time performance and operational efficiency.
- Configure and validate physics-based simulation models to test future operating scenarios and support strategic decision making.
- Lead optimisation initiatives including headway improvements, train re-patterning, possession planning and capacity modelling.
- Translate complex operational data into practical recommendations that improve planning outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership to RailSys Super Users and planning teams while driving capability uplift across the business.
- Partner with Operations, Network Performance, Engineering and external stakeholders to deliver enterprise-wide optimisation initiatives.
- Develop business cases and strategic recommendations that support future investment and capacity growth.
What do we want from you?
- Tertiary qualifications in Operations Research, Data Analytics, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive experience in network capacity planning, scheduling or optimisation within a complex operational environment.
- Expertise in advanced simulation and optimisation tools such as RailSys, discrete event simulation and stochastic modelling.
- Experience using analytical tools such as Python, R, SQL and Power BI.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to develop business cases and influence executive stakeholders.
- Proven experience leading change, improving business processes and implementing enterprise systems.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate technical modelling into practical business outcomes.
