About the role

The Financial Accountant is responsible for a range of Central Finance accounting functions . The role provides critical support to the Financial Controller and Assistant Financial Controller throughout the monthly financial close process, including preparing and posting journals, completing balance sheet reconciliations, and assisting with the review and monitoring of reconciliation status across the Finance team.

This position plays a key role in ensuring financial compliance and governance. Responsibilities include preparing statutory accounts and government reporting requirements, supporting both internal and external audit processes, and contributing to the preparation of the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return.

This is full-time permanent position working at St Leonards with hybrid opportunities.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Complete monthly journals including prepayments, accruals, leases and payroll

  • Complete accurate balance sheet reconciliations on a timely basis

  • Assist with the status review of balance sheet reconciliations across full finance team

  • Complete assessments of make good provisions and book appropriate accounting entrie s includ ing business partnering with relevant team members in the operational team

  • Contribute to Fringe Benefits Tax return preparation

  • Coordinate the development of the operational (leases, depreciation, make good provision) and capital budgets

  • Act as back up for the Fixed Assets Accountant including maintenance of fixed asset register and calculation of depreciation includ ing capitalising assets, running depreciation process and assessing useful lives of assets

  • Support audit by providing requested information in a timely manner

  • Assist in preparation of statutory financial statements in line with accounting standards

  • Contribute to key project initiatives (e.g. GL migration, etc.)

  • Contribute to other legislative reporting (QFR, ACFR, etc.)

  • Support Financial Controller and Assistant Financial Controller as required

About You

  • Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action

  • CPA or CA qualified or studying towards

  • At least 4 year’s experience in a Financial Accounting position

  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant accounting standards and keep up to date

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with other finance and operational team s

  • Strong administrative and computer skills, exposure to SUN and Epicor systems advantageous

  • Exposure to the Aged Care Sector advantageous

  • Attention to detail, producing complete, timely and accurate reporting to support decision making

  • Being agile to manage and prioritise competing priorities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Taking ownership of assigned tasks and follow through

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Empathy and patience
