To support this growth, we’re looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Sedgman Onyx team and play a key role in advancing engineering excellence across our project portfolio.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the delivery of technically robust mechanical engineering outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects.
  • Provide technical direction and strategic input to support safe, practical and efficient project delivery.
  • Take accountability for mechanical engineering quality, technical integrity, risk management, standards and safety.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering workloads, ensuring project teams are set up to deliver effectively.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to support integrated design and seamless project execution.
  • Review and guide the work of engineers and drafting team members to ensure quality, accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Resolve complex technical challenges and provide clear, practical solutions that support project and client outcomes.
  • Review, update and maintain standard drawings and Sedgman Onyx engineering specifications in line with industry best practice.
  • Coach, mentor and support engineers to build technical capability and strengthen team performance.
  • Build trusted relationships across project teams, clients and stakeholders while demonstrating Sedgman Onyx’s Values in Action

What you’ll bring

  • A Bachelor of Engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 15+ years’ experience in a design, consultancy or operational engineering environment.

  • Strong experience across the mining and mineral processing sector, with demonstrated exposure to material handling projects.

  • Sound technical capability in piping design and layout within mining and mineral processing environments.

  • Proven experience leading technical and project teams, with the ability to guide, support and influence engineering outcomes.

  • A practical understanding of project management principles, controls and delivery requirements.

  • Demonstrated success in a senior or similar engineering leadership role.

  • The ability to identify and resolve technical issues, apply sound judgement and escalate where required.
