Ruah Community Services

Are you a passionate lawyer looking to use your legal skills to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children, women and families?

Ruah Legal Services is seeking two Lawyers to join our specialist legal practice:

  • 1 x Lawyer – Care & Protection
  • 1 x Lawyer – Family & Domestic Violence

Working within an integrated legal and psychosocial support model, you'll collaborate with key workers, support workers and community professionals to support people experiencing complex legal and social challenges. This is an opportunity to combine strong legal practice with meaningful social impact while advocating for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Ruah Legal Services (RLS) provides specialist legal representation integrated with psycho-social support, helping vulnerable and disadvantaged people navigate complex legal systems and achieve positive outcomes. We also operate as the Mental Health Law Centre (MHLC), supporting clients experiencing severe mental illness.

Our practice areas include Care and Protection, Criminal Law, Restraining Orders, Mental Health Act matters, and Guardianship and Administration matters. Working collaboratively with key workers and community professionals, we deliver accessible, trauma-informed and client-centred legal services.

About The Roles

These are full-time, 12-month max-term contract positions. Applicants may apply for either role or express interest in both opportunities.

Care & Protection Lawyer

Our Care & Protection service provides integrated legal and community support and advocacy for families facing child protection proceedings.

You will provide legal advice, advocacy and representation to parents from the earliest stages of child protection intervention through to the resolution of proceedings. Working closely with community workers, you'll support families to access services, navigate complex systems and achieve the best possible outcomes for their children.

Family & Domestic Violence Lawyer

Our Family & Domestic Violence service supports women and children experiencing and escaping family violence.

You will provide legal advice, advocacy and representation across a range of family and domestic violence matters, including Family Violence Restraining Orders (FVROs). Working alongside community workers, you'll help clients navigate multiple jurisdictions while receiving tailored wrap-around support as they recover from the impacts of abuse.

Both roles work within Ruah's integrated service model, combining legal representation with psycho-social support to achieve meaningful outcomes for clients. Lawyers work collaboratively with key workers, support workers and external stakeholders to provide accessible, trauma-informed and client-centred legal services.
