About the team

Our Energy Projects team delivers a diverse portfolio of power generation and storage related projects — from conventional coal-fired power plant revamps to leading-edge pump-storage hydro, wind, and large-scale solar developments. We self-manage projects and partner with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) providers to bring these projects to life.

About the role

As our Project Cost Control Engineer, you'll be the custodian of the cost control system and processes across our project portfolio. You'll make sure project expenditure, and forecasts are tracked accurately against budget, so our projects stay on track and on cost.

You'll report to the Project Services Lead and work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Procurement colleagues across the business.

Please note: This is a 12-month fixed-term contract at the moment. Contract extension or permanency is a possibility in the future.

What you'll be doing

  • Setting up and maintaining the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), cost codes, and cost data for each project
  • Preparing detailed cost analysis and reporting, including monthly cost reports, cash flow, cost S-curves and earned value curves
  • preparing the cash flow models for banks and joint venture partners utilizing hatched forex rates
  • Reviewing and coordinating invoice and purchase order approvals with Accounts Payable and the Procurement team
  • Working with budget owners to forecast Final Cost and resolve variations, queries, and issues
  • Supporting risk, scope changes, and Management of Change (MOC) processes with accurate cost information
  • Contributing ideas to continuously improve our cost control systems and processes

What we're looking for

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Quantity Surveying
  • Demonstrated experience in a projects/construction cost control role, with a solid grounding in cost and schedule management methodologies
  • Confidence using cost management software (e.g. advanced Excel) and schedule management tools (e.g. Primavera P6)
  • Experience with earned value analysis and cost or progress S-curves
  • Experience working on projects with joint venture partners and banks is highly desirable
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across a multicultural, multi-stakeholder project environment
