Debt Management Specialist

We're expanding our Revenue team with a newly created Debt Management Specialist position. Reporting to the Coordinator Revenue, you'll join an established team and take ownership of debt recovery strategies that support the City's revenue collection objectives while maintaining a customer-focused and ethical approach.

About the role

The Debt Management Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end management of overdue rates and charges, ensuring recovery processes are effective, compliant and customer-centred. This is a full-time, two-year maximum-term opportunity providing an exciting chance to establish best-practice debt management processes, leverage system capabilities and contribute to improved revenue outcomes for the City.

A snapshot of your new role

  • Manage debt recovery activities for overdue rates and charges.
  • Negotiate and monitor payment arrangements with customers.
  • Coordinate recovery actions and liaise with external legal and debt recovery providers.
  • Analyse debt portfolios and identify opportunities to improve recovery performance.
  • Administer and enhance debt recovery systems, reporting and processes.

What you will bring to the role

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a Local Government Rates role with a strong understanding of the Local Government Act 1995 and legislation pertaining to the Rating industry.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in debt collection or revenue recovery within a local government or regulated environment, including managing overdue rates and charges and implementing appropriate recovery actions.
  • Sound knowledge of local government rating legislation, policies and procedures relating to debt recovery, hardship, and ethical collection practices.
  • Proven ability to engage with customers professionally and empathetically to negotiate, establish and monitor payment arrangements.
  • Experience with local government ERP systems such as TechnologyOne, particularly debt recovery or revenue modules.
  • Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance.
